Naming my Blog

Well, so I saw a suggestion to talk about names and stuff if I’m ever stuck for a topic. I thought to myself, “my name would be cool to talk about, at least my first name, but I’m doing this blog anonymously.” Then I read on and saw that it suggested talking about how I came up with the name for my blog. So, here are my reasons:

Firstly, I love willow trees. They’re just so elegant and droopy and they look so climbable that I can’t help but love them. They’re both strong and flexible, while holding an unfathomable wisdom (or maybe that’s just the Pocahontas influence kicking in).

Secondly, rivers. They follow a path but at the same time carve out their own mark in the land. Whether it’s a little babbling brook or a raging stretch of rapids, they contain both beauty and power, much like how I want my writing to be.

I didn't have the flash turned on and it was exceptionally gloomy out. The result, a very imposing willow.

To dive deeper, part of my love for willow trees comes from reading Fellowship of the Ring, the part just before they meet Tom Bombadil and they fall asleep under Old Man Willow. I know he was a cranky old tree, but the idea of trees being able to take revenge on people who try to bust them up is very appealing to me.

While Siren Alunai is my screen name for most sites, Willow River is what I will probably use as my pen name when I get myself published. That actually began when I was trying to think of a different username for a site and the thought “Willow” just popped into my head. Since willows are known for being around water, and I always picture them hanging their branches into a river, Willow River followed soon after. It’s a soothing image for me, but also one with almost limitless potential, and that’s probably what appeals to me most.

Fun fact, there is actually a river called Willow River. It’s somewhere in more Northern Canada.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed this little blurb. Let me know what you think about my blog’s name, or what sort of names you would use for your own blog. Please, leave a comment.

Summer Love

Sunny DaysSummer’s wind sings past my cheek
Flighty tunes I wish to speak
But to know this language, I am remiss
I cannot beg his gentle kiss

His scent fills my life with joy
But his presence is so sorely coy
That laugh so fleeting, smile so sweet
The warm, strong arms I long to meet

All too soon, the sun must pass
And Autumn comes to fill the gaps
While in bed I lie asleep
I pray my love will Summer keep

No, I’m not Dead Yet.

Whew! Okay, it’s been a REALLY long time since I last posted anything. I don’t really know what happened, but after New Years I just kinda stopped blogging for a while.

Time for news! I am currently in a writing/editing course online. Not sure when I’ll be done with that, but I’ll do my best to get a posting rhythm going again.
Also, the local mall just got a David’s Tea set up in it, so I’ve been going there regularly to partake of the vast array of the delightful beverage. I would be more than happy to post little mini review blogs about the different teas I try if any of you would be interested.
As far as the writing goes, I’ve started a new story, but I haven’t made any progress on my other ones as of late. I will be working on them, and will hopefully have the next instalment of Guardian Angel done and posted by the end of the month.

I went to Fan Expo Vancouver and the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival recently. I have pictures from the first one, though none from the second. I’ll probably post my pictures from Fan Expo within the next few days. There were some pretty awesome cosplayers. I will also be attending Anime Revolution this August. Perhaps, with any luck, I’ll finally be able to try on a lolita dress like I’ve always wanted.

Oh, and I now have an instagram account. You can follow @sirenalunai if you like random pictures of random things like tea, bento lunches, flowers, and the weather. Possibly other things too.

Anyway, that’s it for now. I shall leave you for today with a picture of a squirrel I found in my yard.

In spite of my mother's dogs constantly barking and chasing after them, these guys keep coming back for the bird feed.
